Less than 24 Hours Remaining!

We’re in the last stretch of my Kickstarter campaign! Thank you so much to those who have pledged and shared my fundraiser. If you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend you do! There are lots of drawings available EXCLUSIVE to this campaign.

I recently finished a new tryptic titled, “Magpie.” With less than 24 hours left, I decided to add a print as a reward! The piece represents the Australian magpie bird and how it is one of the few animal species that can recognize itself in its own reflection. The drawing takes a step back to analyze how we look at ourselves and learn who we really are or we see ourselves as.

Two Weeks Too Long

The holidays are an extremely stressful time. And why wouldn’t it be? We all have the pressure of finding gifts for the ones we love, to show just how much we care. It can’t just be any gift either. It has to be the PERFECT present.

On top of the holiday shopping, we have to continue to work and make money for these “treasures.” Where do we find the time to truly celebrate the holiday and just relax with the ones we love?

As my last post mentioned, earlier this month I was busy preparing for the RAW: natural born artists Indie Underground Philly Showcase. I have been honored with the title of the 2013 RAW Visual Artist of the Year for Philadelphia. Sadly, I did not win the national title for the ‘Visual Art’ category, but I am proud to have been a semifinalist. The winner was Jennifer Hanson, an artist representing San Francisco. (Congrats if you’re reading this!) To view her work and to find more information about the other winners of the 2013 RAWards, please visit http://www.rawartists.org/rawards2013/.

2013 Philly RAWards: Semifinals

A week after RAW, I was one of the vendors at the Punk Rock Flea Market, hosted by r5 Productions (http://www.r5productions.com/). Even though it was FREEZING, it was worth it!

I really love seeing people’s reaction to my art. I have some prints left, so if you are interested please feel free to email me at aalexandrin@me.com. “Horned Girl” is a top seller and I seem to keep forgetting to order more prints of it than I usually do. So many things on my mind! It makes it so difficult to keep up with everything.

How do you relax when you know you have a million things to do? I’d love to hear what everyone does. Yes, I have my art. But it is my job, and sadly as a professional fine artist I ironically only have about 10% of my time to actually draw. I wish I had more time. But doesn’t everyone?

(What’s one thing I ALWAYS have time for? Tea!!)

Below are collages I used to do for fun a few years ago. (No one has ever seen these before!) Sometimes it’s good to do something different to free your mind. This was my way of doing it.

I’m so sorry this post has been delayed. It has been two weeks too long, and I hope you all understand. I also hope you all have more time to spend with the ones you care about than I do. There’s so much to do during the holiday season. Go out and explore! Experience what the world has to offer.

“RAW” Talent

This past Thursday, RAW: Natural Born Artists had the 2013 Philadelphia RAWards: Semifinals at LiT UltraBar. Three artists from each category, ranging from visual art to fashion design, competed to be named the artist of the year for the Philadelphia region. I was fortunate enough to make it in the final three for the ‘Visual Artists’ category.

Art comes in many forms. Each piece unique to the artist who created it. Musical performances happened throughout the evening. I’m so proud to be a part of the Philadelphia art culture. There is some amazing talent here.

During the show, winners were announced in each category. The winner moves onto the 5th Annual RAW National Showcase. I am so honored to announce that I won the 2013 Philly RAWard for the Best Visual Artist of the Year! Thank you so much to all who have helped me get here and thanks to the judges for recognizing my work.

From here, I believe that another judging period is next. All of the winners from each city will be reviewed by the National judges and then the winners will move onto the formal National competition in LA. For more information on how it works (and to make sure I’m getting it right!), please visit http://www.rawartists.org/ or watch the “How it Works” YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItGvfnj-BZE.

While all of this has been going on, I had a good break period to work on my art. Here is my most recent piece:

Owl (2013) - Graphite

I have also been working on the drawing pictured below. I’m excited to see how it turns out! It might turn into a new series. Who knows? A matryoshka doll kind of series perhaps.
